Kelvin A. Baggett serves as the senior vice president of clinical operations and chief medical officer for Tenet Healthcare, overseeing the efforts to improve clinical outcomes and the efficiency associated with achieving those outcomes in over 300 Tenet inpatient and outpatient settings.
Dr. Baggett describes his work environment as “complex and geographically dispersed,” and his typical day as a combination of responding to scheduled and unscheduled events and requests.
“I stay informed and engaged through meetings, calls, webinars and other venues that are intended to enhance information sharing, problem solving and collaboration, in an effort to achieve our mission of improving the quality of life of the millions of patients that we serve each year.”
Dr. Baggett is most proud of the ways he has been able to improve the health of others, both as a practicing physician and as a healthcare leader. And like so many of his contemporaries, he has taken a great interest in the people he has served.
“I have watched people get discouraged or discounted because of their background or circumstances. They were bright and capable, but began to believe the opinions of those who doubted or questioned them.”
His advice to them and to everyone is, “Determine your passion and purpose. Don’t let anyone limit your vision for your life.”
Congratulations, Dr. Baggett, for being a “BlackDoctor.org Top Blacks in Healthcare” 2014 honoree!
