Damien Gurganious, a 2009 contestant from the popular weight loss reality show “The Biggest Loser” has died. Damien was only 38-years-old. Damien appeared on season 7 of the show with his then fiance, Nicole Brewer.
Gurganious died November 24th, reportedly from a rare autoimmune disorder called diopathic thrombocytopenic purpura (ITP) which causes sudden bleeding from the brain. Gurganious’s wife, Nicole, confirmed his passing via Facebook. The couple appeared on the show together and lost a combined total of over 200 pounds.

“He was a pillar of his family, an amazing son, brother, cousin and uncle. He was an incredible husband and father to his 2-year-old daughter, Giselle. He was an inspiration and a mentor to so many. His love for his family and friends was immense,” Gurganious’ family released in a statement.
Funeral services will be held in Brooklyn, New York where Gurganious grew up.
‘The Biggest Loser” issued the following statement:
“We are deeply saddened to hear of Damien’s passing. Our thoughts and prayers are with Damien’s wife and daughter during this difficult time.”
His loved ones have launched a fundraising page to help the family, citing that Damien was an inspiration for so many. The show also plans to air a dedication to Gurganious this season. RIP, Damien.
