Derma Rolling 101
Derma rolling (also called microneedling) is a new trending beauty “to-do,” and if you know nothing about it, you are probably wondering why the heck anyone would do it. Here is all you should know!
What is Derma Rolling?
Derma rolling is done with a tool (a derma roller) that has a roller head that is covered with very small, surgical-grade titanium needles. Comparable to IPL treatments, but without the doctor appointment or the financial burden, derma rolling – if done right – can result in beautiful skin.
According to Washington DC-based dermatologist Cheryl Burgess, MD, “The needles are used to puncture the skin to create a controlled skin injury. Each puncture creates a channel that triggers the body to fill these microscopic wounds by producing new collagen and elastin. Through the process of neovascularization and neocollagenesis, there is improvement in skin texture and firmness, as well as reduction in scars, pore size, and stretch marks.”
