A spokesperson for the legendary Queen of Soul, 71, announced that she is taking a break from performing during the month of June. Catherine O’Grady, the director of the Ottawa Jazz Festival, where Franklin was scheduled to perform on June 26, told the Ottawa Citizen newspaper that Franklin was too ill to perform.

“It’s doctor’s orders. She’s really not well,” O’Grady said.

Pregnancy: What To Expect During The First Trimester

No matter how well you prepare for your pregnancy, you may not be able to fully anticipate all of the different changes that are about to take place in your body. During the first trimester (the first three months after your last menstrual period), these changes will help your baby develop and prepare your body to nourish the baby.

Knowing what to expect can help you get ready for the months ahead and learn to distinguish between symptoms that are just uncomfortable and signs that there might be a real problem with your pregnancy.

Body Changes

Pregnancy is different for every woman. Some women glow with good health and vitality during those first three months; others feel absolutely miserable. Here are some of the changes you might experience, what they mean, what you can do to relieve any uncomfortable symptoms, and which signs warrant a call to your doctor.

Bleeding. About 25% of pregnant women experience some bleeding during their first trimester. Early in the pregnancy, light spotting may be a sign that the fertilized embryo has implanted in the uterus. However, if you have significant bleeding, cramping, or sharp pain in your abdomen, call your doctor. These could be signs of a miscarriage or ectopic pregnancy (a pregnancy in which the embryo implants outside of the uterus).

Breast tenderness. Sore breasts are one of the earliest signs of pregnancy. They’re triggered by hormonal changes, which are preparing your milk ducts to feed your baby, and will probably last through the first trimester. Going up a bra size (or more) and wearing a support bra can make you feel more comfortable; you can go back to the lacy bras after your baby is finished nursing.

But when her health became a factor, Mo’Nique made the decision to lose the weight. Now, she’s using her star power to inspire her fans to lose weight.

“For a long time I was a child in my way of thinking. I thought that I could eat what I wanted, do
what I wanted, and was reckless in the sense of abusing my body. That’s when I was younger. I think that the journey I have to take now is that I have babies. I have a son who is 23, but I also have a son who is nine. And we have twins who are seven. I want to meet their children. I want to be able to play with their children. I don’t want to be a burden on my family due to self-neglect….I was fortunate to watch my grandmother play with my children. I want to be in the same position.”

Two other reasons for her change of heart for her health is being diagnosed with high blood pressure and topping out at 262 pounds.

Chris Kelly, 34, of the 90′s Hip-Hop group, Kris Kross, has died, according to legendary Atlanta radio host DJ Greg Street, music producer Bryan-Michael Cox and others in the music business who have taken to Twitter to offer condolences.

Kelly’s mother, Donna Kelly Pratte, and his uncle told police that her son had an “extensive history of drug use”  and that he had taken “speedballs” — a potentially fatal cocktail of heroin and cocaine — the night before his death, TMZ reports.

Although the former child star’s official cause of death has yet to be determined, a representative on behalf of the Fulton County Police Department revealed that witness accounts and evidence collected at the scene all point to an apparent drug overdose, CBS Atlanta reports.

Kelly, known as “Mac Daddy,” and Chris Smith, known as “Daddy Mac,” were introduced to the music world in 1992 by music producer and rapper Jermaine Dupri after he discovered the pair in an Atlanta mall. Henry, with a record of 12-0-1, had been scheduled to fight on Nov. 16, but pulled out days earlier. He later posted on his Facebook page:

“To all my friends and loyal fans I want to inform you all that I am fighting the fight of my life against a disease known as gallbladder cancer. While l’m in this current state I am fighting with my family by my side and I will not go down for the count. I am a champion who has chosen to fight not just for myself but for those who’s faith is believing in what u cant see, and i will continue to fight till I knock this sickness out. Your love and support mean the most to me, your prayers are prayers not only to me but to others like me. Please be advised l am grateful for any and all support in any kind of way please inbox me. My family has continued to be by my side, and its hard for them as well. I want to thank God for unconditional love and unconditional fans.”

According to friends and family, Henry showed strength through his faith, despite the pain his body felt. After his diagnosis, he continuously showed optimism during interviews, expressing that he would survive the disease. Henry died less than three months after learning that he had gallbladder cancer.

Well, first, I exercise. For cardio, I either run or spin for about 30-45 minutes. I also eat right… balanced meals are key to everything. I also drink lots of water and take a multivitamin.

AP: It was something that I created out of pure vanity. I know what it feels like to be a Black woman and just get your hair done. The desire that many women have to keep the hairstyle that we spend so much time and money on to last. I had to come up with something. Initially, I began cutting and testing different fabrics I had at home, anything I could find. I made a lot different prototypes that were just headbands, until I linked up with my business partner, who had a contact with someone experienced in producing garments for the U.S. military. We created a workable product and tested it all over the country, from young women to old women. Down south and up north. It took us over a year and half to get the product just right. And it works!

BDO: How do YOU stay fit & healthy with such a demanding schedule?

Roberts, 51, underwent the five-minute transplant on Sept. 20, 2012, when she was injected with a syringe carrying cells donated by her sister Sally-Ann, said Dr. Gail Roboz, an oncologist at New York-Presbyterian Hospital/Weill Cornell Medical Center.
