Lately, football players have been in the news for all the wrong reasons. But in a time when things seemingly couldn’t get any worse for African American men and football, high school player Apollos Hester’s shared his take on his school’s 42-41 victory over Vandegrift was refreshingly positive.
Hester, a running back for the Texas high school East View Patriots, was charged up when speaking to the TWC news channel and having initially started off by discussing the narrow victory, things soon turned philosophical.
“All it takes to be successful is an attitude,” Hester said. “And that’s what our coach told us. He said, ‘Hey, it’s gonna be tough, it’s gonna be hard. You’re gonna go out there, you’re gonna battle, you’re gonna fight, you’re gonna do it for one another. Do it for each other, you’re gonna do it for yourself, you’re gonna do it for us, and you’re gonna go out with this win.’ And we believed that, we truly did. And it’s an awesome feeling.”
