It’s simply the action of partaking in activities that have negative consequences in the long run. Addiction often involves the use of drugs, alcohol, or other substances. 

Addiction can also refer to behaviors such as gambling, sex, or internet use, which can trigger similar changes in the brain and lead to similar patterns of compulsive behavior.  

Now that we can identify what addiction is. We can use the next five steps to conquer it.

1. Seek Professional Help

Addiction is a complex condition that often requires the guidance of trained professionals. Seeking help from a therapist, counselor, or addiction specialist can provide the support and resources needed to overcome addiction. 

Some physicians and programs specialize in the treatment of substance use disorders. Even an initial evaluation is a big step.

2. Develop A Support System

Having a strong support network of family, friends, and peers can make a significant difference in overcoming addiction. 

Surrounding yourself with people who understand what you’re going through and are there to support you can help you stay motivated and committed to your recovery.
