BlackDoctor.org Marks 20 Years of Excellence with Rooftop Celebration

BlackDoctor.org (BDO), the leading health and wellness platform for people of color, marked its 20th anniversary with a vibrant rooftop celebration on July 21 at the St. Regis Chicago. The milestone event brought together industry leaders, health advocates, and community partners to celebrate two decades of impact on health equity.

Guests began arriving at the stunning rooftop venue in the early evening, welcomed by upbeat sounds from DJ Vince Adams, elegant floral arrangements by Southside Blooms, and curated photo opportunities. The atmosphere was electric, with branded décor, giveaways, and a custom photobooth adding to the festive mood.

BDO’s Chief Content Officer, Derrick Lane, officially opened the program with heartfelt remarks. He was followed by brief sponsor messages from Amgen and Gilead, delivered by Deborah Wafer, NP, PA, Executive Director of Advocacy & Community Engagement. The evening’s keynote came from Dr. Reed Tuckson, who emphasized the continued need for innovation and equity in healthcare delivery.

A highlight of the night was the celebration of BDO Founder and CEO Reggie Ware, who was honored with custom gifts—including a commemorative plaque and a framed golf club photo—presented by models during a special tribute segment. Immediately following, Akiwole Garrett, BDO’s newly named President and COO, took the stage to share his vision for the organization’s next chapter of growth and influence.

A sabrage and champagne toast capped the formal portion of the evening, underscoring the celebratory spirit of the occasion. Guests also enjoyed food service and product giveaways from Carol’s Daughter throughout the night.

As the event wrapped, BDO’s commitment to its mission—providing culturally relevant, evidence-based health information to Black communities—remained front and center. With 20 years of service behind it and a bold new chapter ahead, BDO is poised to deepen its legacy of impact and leadership in Black health.
