Regé-Jean Page, the handsome actor who currently stars in Shonda Rhimes’ royal period-piece, “Bridgerton” as the Duke of Hastings, Simon Bassett has been making women swoon ever since the show debuted on Netflix. The series has already been watched by over 63 million people and still climbing.
One of the many attractions of the show is the steamy sex scenes that Page is able to pull off, seemingly easily. But as it was just revealed that it isn’t as easy for him as we thought.
While Page was born in London, he spent most of his childhood in Harare, Zimbabwe, before eventually moving back to the U.K. for secondary school. “Zimbabwe was still a relatively young country when I was living there and its post-apartheid society was only newly formed,” he told The Guardian on December 17. “Being a mixed-race child in that environment means that you have to think about crafting your own identity and you question why you belong in that world.”
His Sexy Fitness Routine
Page revealed there’s more to a sex scene than just showing up. “There’s a lot of physical activity involved,” he said. “So I was on the full Rocky [boxing] regime for it. I was up at 5am every day, going to the gym, meeting my trainer.
“He was horrible to me for an hour and a half every morning before the day started. I got my strength up just from surviving him. Luckily, the pretentious actor in me could justify that, because I always start building a character from what their physical language is. But you are also serving the audience in a genre that is about fantasy and glamour.”
Boxing and sex have a long history together and why boxing can help the other. As men age, their testosterone levels start to drop, especially when they reach their late 30s and early 40s. Then, it starts to drop about 2% a year, according to Men’s Journal.
When it comes to aging, the Human Growth Hormone, HGH, also decreases. This hormone reduces the effects of aging, helps build muscle and improves your general health.
But multiple studies show that intense exercises, such as interval training or boxing can increase testosterone levels. So, does boxing boost testosterone? Yes, it does.
Page’s Boxing Routine
Page, who had worked with Rhimes on the legal series For The People, underwent a boxing training for his role. In the series, Simon often unwinds by boxing with his friend Will, played by Martins Imhangbe.
“It was really fun to do something so physical and exhausting and to get into visceral play with the other actors,” Page said in an interview.
Page acknowledged that the sweaty, intense boxing scenes weren’t easy to film.
“They were some of the most challenging days in terms of doing many takes that were as close to the real thing as you’re going to get, but we had some fantastic trainers,” he said.
“There’s a very specific type of feeling of reward when you walk away from work physically exhausted at the end of the day, and knowing that’s going to look great,” he added.
What’s Next for Rege-Jean
Following his recent success from Bridgerton, Page shared his aspirations moving forward. “I think
