Sizzling After 60: Find a Move that Fits Your Flow!

We are in now the third wave of COVID-19, and we need to get prepared for a potential shut down again on some levels. The Corona is not through with us yet, so it’s vitally important that we keep our bodies moving now for so many reasons!

Full transparency—it has been wonderful to be back in the gym for me. I like using the weights, machines, big treadmills and stuff—and the real jocks inspire me. And Medicare covers many gym fees!

My gym has been just excellent about social distancing, disinfecting and mask wearing.  BUT…that’s not all I like to do. Some days, I like yoga. After sitting in Zoom meetings for so long, I forgot how good it feels to really stretch my body.  My joints have forgotten too, LOL!

On some beautiful fall days, a brisk walk is invigorating. The colors of the leaves are stunning, and the air is crisp. Biking is fun, too. I am not a jogger, but a terrific walk/runner.

With the right music, I can interval train on the treadmill for 20 minutes with the best of them; running for a minute and walking for three is my jam! It really gets the heart rate up, too.

That’s the whole point of this post: Find a move that fits your flow! Does one type of exercise do it for you? Several? What’s key is to not to stay sedentary.

During the pandemic, it has been easy for some to just adapt a more “stay in place” lifestyle…binge-TV, food deliveries, Zoom meetings, etc.  Many, however, have turned to the growing number of available exercise options on the Internet.

This is such a good thing!  Pull up YouTube, put in “Yoga Videos,” for example, and look at what’s out there.  See what looks like fun, or like something interesting to you.  Prop up your smart phone and give it a try.

Still not motivated? Even without...

the pandemic, according to Exercise.com, there are some basic reasons why people don’t exercise:

  • Many people simply aren’t motivated enough to begin an exercise routine
  • Others think that to exercise regularly, they must shell out a big chunk of cash to join a gym, hire a trainer or buy expensive equipment
  • The most common reason, however, is that people simply don’t think they have the time.

So, what reason fits your bill for not moving? Hmmm, let’s see if instead, you can choose a motivating reason to Find a move that fits your flow. The article below states some positives.

These are motivating reasons to exercise that you may have heard before, BUT HERE THEY ARE AGAIN!

The key benefits of physical activity listed by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention are summarized below.  Check out the specifics here:

  • Brain health
  • Weight management
  • Reducing disease
  • Strengthening your bones and muscles
  • Improving your ability to do everyday activities

I knew that exercise helped with combatting breast cancer, but look at how exercise can have an impact on reducing several forms of cancer…WOW!

To keep sizzling after 60, moving your body is not something just “nice to do.” It is an imperative.  I cannot tell you how many people come up to me with wonderful comments about how I’m aging well.

Yes, I try to watch what I eat, manage my stress, seek positivity in my life and relationships—topics I also cover in my posts.  But exercise is truly like turning on the faucet of youth.

It does that much for me and can for you as well.  Our bodies are made to move.  And, trust me, our lives depend on it.

So, Find a move that fits your flow. Set your mindset to enjoy doing something that can enhance your life in tremendous ways, and yet doesn’t require much time or money. Involve a friend, a spouse or start a club and…keep sizzling!

Hugs,

Amy
