Top 4 Dishes Men Wished Women Knew How To Cook

#This article is a part of the #WhatHeSaid series, where men give their pure, unadulterated opinion about what matters to them.

Why do men love women who can cook? Why do they prefer them over women who can’t? Could the answer be much more simple than we think? YES!

In my opinion, it all boils down to (drumroll please): because we like to eat!

Yes, the cliché saying that, “the way to a man’s heart is through his stomach,” is true. Definitely. Is it because a woman who can cook reminds them of their mom? Maybe. But at the core of all those truths lies something simpler — men love women who can cook because it means that their family will be taken care of.

To say that men are simple creatures surprises no one. Sometimes, we can be so simple, it may seem complicated. We can be very instinctual and simple in our thinking. Men are designed to protect and provide.

There’s actually an old joke that compares men with women. It goes a little something like this:

“HOW TO SEDUCE A WOMAN: compliment her, respect her, honor her, cuddle her, kiss her, caress her, love her, stroke her, tease her, comfort her, protect her, hug her, hold her, spend money on her, wine and dine her, buy things for her, listen to her, care for her, stand by her, support her, hold her, go to the ends of the Earth for her.

HOW TO SEDUCE A MAN: Show up naked. Bring food.”
LOL

When it comes to our families (or future families), men want to make sure that our children have the basic necessities — food, water, shelter, etc. Oh, and love too. At an instinctual level, providing these things shows our love.

So with all that said, here are the top four dishes men said they wanted a woman to cook*
(*The men polled were a group of 100 Black men (ages 28-75) from all walks of life (professional, blue collar, married, single, etc.) All men were asked privately, one-on-one.)

4. Macaroni & Cheese / Spaghetti / Casserole (tied at 14% of the vote): the number four spot was tied. Over one out of five men who were polled said that some type of pasta was a “basic dish women should know how to make.” Many men did recognize that not all macaroni and cheese is created equal, but some sort of effort should be made to master it.

It is also worthy to note that men expressed the need for women to know at least ONE dish from their mother and/or grandmother. Some sort of dish that has been carried down from generation to generation. That dish would get more precedent than others.

Here’s a great mac n’ cheese recipe.
