ALERT: Popular Deodorants Recalled Over Cancer Risk

The Food and Drug Administration wants you to stop using these deodorants ASAP after concerns were raised about a cancer-causing chemical found inside the cans.

Six Sure and Brut brand aerosol sprays are also being recalled after unexpected levels of a cancer-causing chemical, benzene, were detected.

This comes after Old Spice and Secret aerosol spray antiperspirant deodorants were also recalled due to the same cancer-causing chemical.

Although benzene is not an ingredient in the deodorants, testing showed the chemical, which can occur naturally, was present in the propellant that sprays the deodorant out of the can.

Benzene is classified as a human carcinogen.

Exposure to benzene can occur by inhalation, orally, and through the skin and it can result in cancers including leukemia and blood cancer of the bone marrow and blood disorders which can be life-threatening.

To date, there have been no reports of illness related to the voluntary recall announced on Feb. 16 by TCP HOT Acquisition LLC, which does business as HRB Brands.

P&G says it also has not received any reports of sickness or injuries related to the recall.
