Suffering From Headaches? It May Be The Weather

headaches weather

This cold weather is doing a lot more than bringing Santa and his helpers out. As joyous as this time of year may be due to the holiday season, the cold weather can be brutal for some. It has the ability to make it hard to breathe, hard to see, and even hard to think. Yes, you may be suffering from head pain because of the cold weather, and here’s how.

How The Cold Weather Affects You

The cold weather can affect you in many ways. The first way it can take a toll on you is through your bones. If you are not dressed properly for the weather, that could make you cold overall and have an effect on your bones. This can lead to aching bones, which can be extremely uncomfortable or painful, especially if you are someone living with arthritis.

The cold weather can also make it difficult for you to breathe if you are living with respiratory issues such as asthma because the cold dry air makes breathing hard to do.

Cooler weather could also cause sinus trouble. You may have thought that you only experience sinus problems in the spring and summer but that isn’t the case. Unfortunately, you can experience sinus trouble in the winter as well.

Why It May Be Causing You Headaches

Not only does the cold weather cause you sinus issues, but these sinus issues can lead to sinus headaches. The cold weather correlates with low-pressure air systems and this causes changes between indoor and outdoor air pressure. This can cause you pain in a few ways.

The first way you can experience pain is with sinus headaches. Since your body is trying to adjust to the change in pressure, it can often lead to pressure on your sinuses.

The second way you can experience pain is with migraines. Since the indoor and outdoor air pressure is different now, the way the blood flows to your brain is different as well and this is usually a key factor as to why you may experience headaches in the winter.

Another reason why you could be experiencing cold-weather headaches is because of the drops in humidity, which causes dryness. Dryness not only affects your skin on the outside, but it also causes dehydration on the inside. This causes mucus to thicken in your sinuses. It also makes it difficult for your body to push mucus out, which can lead to sinus infections and later on sinus headaches.
