Basketball Wives star Tami Roman’s world was turned upside down after the 45-year-old beauty revealed she suffered a miscarriage recently.
Roman, whose boyfriend is Reggie Youngblood, was 10 weeks pregnant and entering her 11th week when she lost their child.
“I am deeply saddened that after 10 1/2 weeks, we suffer this loss,” Roman said. “We knew this would be an uphill battle. We were up against the odds. I have a prolapsed uterus and am diabetic. I battle bouts of hypoglycemia due to my diabetes and my blood pressure continually ran high. We were prayerful, we had and still have faith. We are not giving up.”
A prolapsed uterus can be described in the following stages:
- First degree: The cervix droops into the vagina.
- Second degree: The cervix comes down to the opening of the vagina.
- Third degree: The cervix is outside the vagina.
- Fourth degree: The entire uterus is outside the vagina. This condition is also called procidentia. This is caused by weakness in all of the supporting muscles.
Reggie adds, “This is a tough time for us. It is the worst pain I’ve felt since losing my mother. I want people to understand the sensitivity of this situation. We are hurting and negative comments, don’t help.”
In a 2016 interview, Tami responded to questions on wether or not she has given up on being pregnant again:
“I have not given up. I have a man who I love with every inch of my being and he wants a child, so we’re trying.”
No matter who you are, miscarriages can happen to anyone. Here are 6 of the most common causes:
Untreated Illnesses Such as Thyroid Problems (Both Hyper- and Hypo-Thyroidism) and Uncontrolled Diabetes)
Immunologic Disorders – In some cases, though, the embryo isn’t accepted by the woman’s body. Antiphospholipid antibodies—antibodies that attack one’s own tissue, including embryos—account for many miscarriages
Polycystic Ovary Syndrome (PCOS) – Even in women who don’t have diabetes, PCOS causes insulin resistance, which prevents the endometrial lining from maturing properly
Lifestyle (Cigarettes, Alcohol, Drugs, Environmental Toxins) – as with anything, a healthy lifestyle cuts down on unhealthy veggies
Bacterial Infections – Many micro-organisms live harmlessly—even helpfully—in the male and female reproductive tracts. But certain bacteria can cause problems, including an increased risk of a miscarriage
