You’ve probably seen videos of it. Maybe even on your social media. And some have friends and family talking about it as well. Wrapping plastic wrap (like Reynold’s Wrap) around your midsection, usually with some sort of lotion, cream or solution, in order to shrink your waist.
Many people know the dangers of corsets and wearing waist trainers, so some have turned to this method in order to get the sought after slim waist.
Well, let’s get one thing out of the way right now:
Plastic wraps do not help you burn fat (got it? Good).
All you lose is water weight, which comes right back when you rehydrate your body. You must also consider the fat burning cream or location usually associated with it.
Some have reported a “burning sensation” underneath the plastic wrap while wearing it. They think that is working. But studies have shown that sometimes it could be eating away at your skin depending on your skin type and medical history.
Those who have or have a history of high blood pressure or diabetes need to consult a physician before trying any type of body wrap. Here’s 3 other reasons to go with “the wrap” and try something healthier:
1. Sweating Too Much
Another thing to consider is the sweating. Sweating too much can lead to dehydration which is dangerous as the sweat does not dry, but stays on the body, raising body temperature possibly to unsafe levels. Profuse sweating also leads to changes in blood chemistry, reducing blood volume and sending less oxygen to the cells.
Weakness, dizziness, confusion, coma and even death canresult because of excessive fluid loss. If you are having a body wrap at a spa, your attendant may not be qualified to deal with any of these reactions.
Those who claim to have seen and be satisfied with their results must know that those results are short-lived.
2. Wrapped In Cancer
The dangers of wrapping your stomach in plastic don’t just stop there. Cling wrap used for wrapping the stomach is made from Polyvinyl chloride (PVC), which has been described as one of the most dangerous consumer products.
It leaches harmful substances which have been linked to negative effects on the liver, spleen, kidneys, bone formation and body weight. PVC is also linked to cancer. Some wraps are dipped in mineral products, some of which may contain aluminum, which is linked to Alzheimer’s. In addition, you may be allergic to some of the ingredients used in the wrap.
3. Died Down In The Bedroom
Last but not least, one of the side effects of wrapping your stomach to lose inches has been found that the shifting and squishing of organs can have a negative effect on performance in the bedroom.
Increased risk of erectile dysfunction for me has also been reported. It’s actually safer just to exercise since exercises has been proven to actually INCREASE libido and bedroom stamina.
So ditch the plastic wrap, and just used to wrap your sandwiches. Other than that, exercise, your body will thank you for it later.
