The motivational paperback went to #1 on Amazon in less than 24 hours after its release and it’s sure to leave you inspired and empowered to knock our your goals in this last quarter. Take a look…
BDO: What inspired you to write this book?
Steve: Along my journey, I’ve been fortunate to meet some amazing people in my life and at a certain point I realized I’ve been influenced by a lot. I realized through that journey of traveling to every state in the country and doing events in every state in the country, I saw how disadvantaged people are in getting access to individuals whether its inspirational mentors, advisors or people who can actually pour into them and give them that proper guidance so I wanted to put a body of work together that could give them access to this high-level security clearance to these minds of an era.
When you look at Daymond John, creator of FUBU and he’s on Shark Tank and Kenny Smith, a two time NBA champion, and an Emmy award winner for his TV show on TNT, 2 Chainz, a Grammy award winner, Barbara Corcoran who is a real estate tycoon and also on ABC’s Shark Tank Swin Cash, a two time Olympic gold medalist and WNBA champion–this is access to their minds and letting you know what they did to overcome failure and how they became successful so I want to put that collection of work together and be able to share it. At the end of the day, I just want people to read this body of work to give you an advantage to achieving your goals in life.
BDO: There’s a lot of talk about entrepreneurship and pursuing your dreams. What are some of the things people don’t talk about when it comes to entrepreneurship?
Steve: I think people know that it’s a hard journey and I think people know that you catch what you eat. What you bring in as an entrepreneur is what you have and you have to work toward gaining more. But, I don’t think people realize that you can’t do it by yourself. A lot of people work tireless hours, you know put in 20 hours in a day and sleep for 4 and repeat and keep doing it and chasing that tail. But they don’t understand that you need advisors, those mentors, you need those champions in your life that are going to tell you no, maybe you should go left instead of right.
People who might have done it who are in your field. Or people who may have bumped their head on the road and overcame it and will give you that advice so you don’t make those same mistakes. A lot of people feel like, “If I have x amount of dollars, I’ll be able to make this dream come true.” Sometimes people can have too much money and put themselves out of business because that capital is floating and they’re not bringing anything in and it’s a false sense of success for their business. So if there’s one thing I would say, you need advisors, you need mentors and you need champions people who are going to talk about you when you’re not in the room to achieve those goals. It’s very difficult, almost impossible to accomplish it all on your own.
