We Need to Know: Where Did This Fibroid Come From?

BDO: What leads to fibroid growth in the body?

Dr. Linda Bradley: Fibroids will grow under the presence of estrogen and estrogen is a hormone that’s made in the ovaries.

Estrogen is a hormone that makes us grow as women to develop breasts, to develop our height, to develop pubic hair. As women are in their 20s and 30s and also 40s we have high levels of estrogen at those ages.

At menopause when the ovaries have gone to sleep the periods stop and the estrogen levels if measured are very low the fibroids symptoms and size often decreases.
