Kellogg, the company known for the catchy “leggomyeggo” catchprahse, voluntarily recalled 10,000 cases of its Eggo® Nutri-Grain® Whole Wheat Waffles. The waffles may be contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes, according to a statement on the company’s dedicated Eggo website.
The website warns:
Listeria monocytogenes can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, frail or elderly people, and others with weakened immune systems. Although healthy individuals may suffer only short-term symptoms such as high fever, severe headache, stiffness, nausea, abdominal pain and diarrhea, Listeria infection can cause miscarriages and stillbirths among pregnant women.
The recall came after routine quality control tests for contamination and affects retailers in 25 states: CO, CT, DE, GA, IA, IL, IN, KS, MA, MD, ME, MI, MN, MO, ND, NE, NH, NJ, NY, OH, PA, VA, VT, WI, WY.
As of this writing, Kellogg has not received any reports of illness and no other Eggo products are involved in the recall.
