As the founder of J-Rock’s Pop Gourmet Vegan Popcorn, 12-year-old Jayden Hammond of the South Side of Chicago sells organic popcorn made with premium ingredients like organic coconut oil. The business idea was inspired by his desire to live a healthy lifestyle, a life-long love of homemade popcorn and a passion for social entrepreneurship.
“For years my family and I have enjoyed vegan popcorn as our favorite homemade snack, especially on movie nights.” said Hammond. “Since my dad is a health coach and my mom is studying to be an acupuncturist, they have trained me and my sister to make healthy choices. So we like to experiment with our popcorn by using different seasonings and toppings.”
With the help of his parents, he decided long ago that he wanted to be a business owner. “They tell me all the time that it will be best to own my own business so that I can be in full control of my life.”
J-Rock’s Popcorn is 100% vegan and organic. In addition, it is naturally gluten free with no artificial ingredients, dairy, GMOs, high-fructose corn syrup or preservatives.
Hammond has three unique flavors available: J-Rock’s Classic, which has a savory garlic and cheese flavor, Ethiopian Barbecue, a combination of spicy and sweet and Plain, which is simple yet delicious. Hammond has more flavors coming soon.
Another admiral aspect of Jayden’s company is that 5% of all profits benefit the current water crisis in Flint, MI.
