As we get excited with the arrival of spring, with summer quickly approaching, we still need to keep in mind that we are still in a pandemic. Not to dampen the mood, but even with the COVID-19 vaccinations, we can still possibly be at risk. So many people have gotten comfortable coming out of isolation, which can become easier to do as the weather becomes nicer; watching this happen can influence other people to do the same, and this is where lack of social distancing becomes a risk.
Some are willing to take that risk, but you can still have a good time and enjoy the summer while staying safe social distancing and wearing your masks. How many ways? I have 19 of them for you!
They include:
Backyard barbecue. Fire up the grill and invite family and loved ones over to mix and mingle outside. End the fun night watching the sun go down or with a bonfire.
Beach. There is plenty of sand, water, and walking paths to partake in some summer fun!
Bike rides. Catch some sun and a fresh breeze while riding your bike, whether solo or with friends and family.
Camping or hiking adventure. If you’re into this type of outdoor adventure, there is plenty of space and nature for you to enjoy safely at designated camping and/or hiking destinations.
Dining out. It can still be done, as many restaurants are reopening (if they ever closed) and offering social distanced seating or outdoor dining.
Drive-In theater. Some cities do still have drive-in theaters. Find one near you and bring the lawn chairs!
Farmer’s market. It’s outside and you can shop – what more can you ask for?
Fun at the park. This is free fun where you can take the family and or significant other, bring a picnic, or even bring a book to read and relax.
Game night. Whether in your basement or outside on a picnic table, games with your loved ones is a fun way to pass the time.
Golfing. Regular or miniature, summer is the perfect time to swing the clubs!
Going out for ice cream. Many ice cream places are opening back up in time for this beautiful weather and setting up the parameters to meet social distancing requirements; some of these businesses have benches and playgrounds for the family to spread out, but if all else fails, roll the windows down in your vehicle and enjoy your ice cream inside your car!
Let’s go to the mall. There is plenty of space to walk and shop around in the mall, and many stores limit the number of people who can enter at one time.
Movies on the deck. Bring out the big screen television or film screen and show a movie or two on your back deck.
Movie theaters. More cinemas are opening back up with safety precautions for viewers, including allowing less patrons in one movie showing, even spacing them out by seats or rows.
If you prefer your movie viewing inside, check and see what your local movie theater is doing to keep you safe.
Sailing. Into water sports? Take the boat, canoe, or kayak out!
Shopping Outlets. Another shopping option is visiting an outlet center, where you can roam from store to store while getting some sun and fresh air (and for discounted prices).
Skating. Whether outside or at a nearby skating rink, with plenty of room to social distance), grab your skates and groove!
Virtual walks and runs. Did you participate in marathons before COVID? You still can but record yourself taking your walk/run to share on social media.
Need the support and don’t want to do it alone? Grab a friend to socially distance in the walk/run with you!
Your own outdoor water park at home. Pull out the water hose, sprinklers, and pool for a fun water-park experience on your lawn!
