The government may seem lax on gun laws and legislation takes time, so it’s up to us to take precautions wherever we go and whenever we can.
Not sure what to do during a mass shooting? Here are 6 precautions to be sure to take:
1. Seek Cover In Ambiguous Places
Not enough of us focus on the places that are available to hide in or at. Yes, we should always have an exit strategy and be able to have a clear view of the shooter at all times. Instead of running in plain sight, hiding in places like the home department with bigger objects or even under a pile of clothes could very well save your life.
2. Call 9-1-1 Immediately
As soon as you seek cover, pull out your phone and call 9-1-1 immediately. This way the immediate noise and commotion will mask your phone call, which is important because at some point you’ll want to be silent.
3. Be Discreet And Keep Quiet
Once you’re in a place that you find to be very well hidden, make sure to silence your phone and try your best to keep quiet.
4. Consider All Exits
Remember that there is always a minimum of two exits to any building. If the front door is not available go to the back door or try the loading dock to get out.
5. Warn And Help Others Along The Way
If you feel you have a head start, make sure to warn others to get out as well. Simply speaking up can help save others’ lives.
6. Once Out, Run For Help
Get to the nearest safe place and contact 9-1-1. Inform them of the situation and give as much detailed information as possible.
