We all want what’s best for our hair because the end goal is beautiful, healthy, growing locks! The problem is that sometimes we don’t understand the significant different ways we all must treat our hair to get to this point. Every type of hair is different, and therefore needs different types of maintenance. This is especially important when thinking about oils and what you put on your hair.
Every hair type needs a different type of oil. So let’s play matchmaker! According to celebrity hair stylist Corey Powell, “Hair oils are a great way to nourish and hydrate your hair, not to mention the perfect way to give your hair the exact vitamins and minerals it needs.”
He suggests that once you’ve determined the best oil for your hair that you treat your hair weekly with it, massaging it on your scalp and covering your hair with it as well. Doing a hot oil treatment will make these oil masks more effective.
Fine Hair
Pomegranate seed oil is a perfect selection for fine hair when mixed with a heavier oil such as olive oil. The punicic acid within this type of oil helps to loosen up the texture of the olive oil, making it not so heavy on fine hair.
Thin Hair
People with thin hair are often concerned with hair loss. Rosemary oil is a perfect match for this type of hair. It stimulates growth within the hair follicles and is a high provider of iron, calcium and vitamin B, promoting a healthy shine and thickness.
Wavy Hair
A nut oil such as almond is great for this hair type. It has a high concentration of vitamin A, B and E. It…… helps to prevent and hide split ends, which can sometimes be hard to manage with wavy hair.
Coarse Hair
Rich in both protein and amino acids, avocado oil is exactly what coarse hair needs. The high concentration of protein and vitamins A, D, and E help to fill in the crevices within the hair’s cuticles. Coarse hair has a lot of crevices and this is what causes the hair to be curly. The heavy oil is great for moisturizing and protecting the hair.
Thick Hair
The monounsaturated fat in olive oil is what makes it such a great moisture treatment. Thick hair is always thirsty for more moisture. Olive oil is extra hydrating and packed with many necessary antioxidants, fatty acids, and proteins to help maintain the strength and elasticity of the hair.
