Danny R. Gibson, LMFT: It can have a tremendous effect. Often, particularly if the relationship at home with Mom and Dad, or whoever is one of treacherousness. Where they are fighting, hitting, swearing at each other. The kids sometimes learn how to sort of interact with each other when there’s a disagreement by what they see at home.
So, if Mom is doing it at home and Dad is doing it at home, it’s not surprising that they would go to school and do the same thing with their friends. When a friend disagrees with them, they will push them or hit them, and even with a teacher sometimes. So, sometimes what they see at home does translate outside the house and does create problems for the children outside the house. By what they have viewed at home as well.
