Anthony was 315 pounds with a blood sugar level of 500 – he had to do something! Below is his account of the steps he took to take back his life:
I went to the doctor, and found out that not only was I 315 pounds, but I also had a blood sugar level of 500. The prognosis? I was now a diabetic, and I would have to live with the consequences of my failure to take care of myself.
I knew there wasn’t a cure, but I didn’t want to take pills, either. Instead, I opted to take full responsibility for my health. I did some research on all aspects of my new condition, as well as going to health food and nutrition stores. I became obsessed with overcoming diabetes and controlling my health…I didn’t want to feel as if only the doctor would be able to help me. I wanted to help myself.
So I came up with a 6-step process to get healthier:
First step: I moved away from all meats. Pork, beef, chicken and fish..any animal. Period!
Second step: I began doing cardio, particularly walking and running. Later on, I began a strength routine, lifting weights and doing push-ups and dips. I did it all!
Third step: I started studying about nutrition and began juicing.
Fourth step: I began a regimen of herbal extracts and cleanses.
Fifth Step: I learned where I could buy organic foods.
Sixth Step: I learned how cook vegetarian and vegan meals.
Two years later, I’m at 235lbs, I’m healthier, I’m stronger…and my blood sugar is around 125, and even lower sometimes! I even have an increased sex drive! Yes!
I’m back to being the man I used to be for my partner and best friend…my wife.
Going through this journey has allowed me to see that the way I looked at food needed to change. When that changed, so did my life. And now I’m a better man for it.
