The one thing about life is that it’s going to keep on going. Life is going to continue to throw you curveball after curveball and unfortunately, there is nothing you can do to prevent that. Some days will be amazing and full of highs, some days will be bad and full of lows. Whether or not you plan for all that life has to offer, in the end, you’re going to have to work with it. This means any type of setbacks, failed plans, or even sickness. Regardless of what it is, making the best out of what you have is the key way to maneuver through life. With that being said, just because you may be faced with adversity or challenges, that doesn’t mean you have to show it. Yes, you can appear to be strong and push forth, but you can also look good while going through it. No matter what you may be going through, it doesn’t need to stop you from looking and feeling your best, especially when living with an autoimmune disease like lupus. Living with lupus doesn’t have to stop you from getting that bomb a** beat!
How Lupus Affects The Skin
If you don’t know what lupus is, here’s a little run down. Lupus is an autoimmune disease that occurs when your body’s immune system begins to attack your organs and tissues.
The inflammation that lupus causes can affect your lungs, joints, kidneys, skin, brain and more.
Though it’s very hard to diagnose lupus because of how similar its symptoms are to other conditions, one way to determine if you have developed lupus is through your skin.
In most cases of lupus (not all), you’ll notice a facial rash that appears as butterfly wings, expanding across both cheeks of your face.
When inflammation is triggered and a lupus flare-up occurs on the skin, there will be rashes on your face and/or other parts of the body. Skin bruises and or sores will appear in the midst of lupus flare-ups as well.

What To Do When You Want To Look And Feel Good
If you are living with lupus, there will be days when you don’t look and feel your best. This autoimmune disease takes a heavy toll on the body both physically and mentally. In order to look good, you have to make sure you feel good and that starts mentally.
Though this is still a medical condition that affects everyone differently, making sure that you change the outlook of how you view it is important.
Once you start to move with that, looking good will follow. Affirming yourself and your condition is one way to start your own movement.
Finding people who are going through what you are is another way. Moving your body and doing mental exercises help too. Though the best way to feel good is to get dressed up and beat your face with makeup.
Best Makeup Products For People Living With Lupus
When shopping for makeup as a lupus survivor, less is more, especially with makeup. Look for makeup products with ingredients that are better for soothing the skin instead of harsh ones.
Try mattifying moisturizers such as La-Roche Posay Effaclar Mat Oil-Free Mattifying Moisturizer. This product helps with controlling oily skin, which could affect your makeup.
When looking for coverage, Dermablend makeup products are great. Since they were created for professional use, their products specialize in full coverage with an amazing finish. Check out some of their setting powders and foundations. Look for products with turmeric for help with inflammation and products with SPF since lupus can be triggered by the sun.

Preventing An Unwanted Flare-Up While Wearing Makeup
Make sure you are wearing SPF and/or the products you use contain SPF. Avoid sun exposure for too long. Use makeup products with natural ingredients so you don’t trigger a flare-up due to harsh chemicals.
Lightweight makeup will be your go-to and don’t pack on too much, this can end up causing you irritation.
Try using cream to powder products instead of one or the other. If you deal with more intense skin flare-ups and are currently using prescribed ointments and creams, be sure to use them before makeup application.
Also, make sure that these ointments and creams won’t be affected by certain makeup products and their ingredients. Bring your products in and go over them with your doctor.
Lupus doesn’t have to stop you from looking and feeling your best, so don’t let it. Go and get that bomb a** beat!
