“I guess I got to change my name to, Dr. P. Miller,” he wrote. “From the projects to getting a Doctoral degree from @lincolnuniversityofpa. Don’t be afraid to change, grow and educate yourself. I did it! You can do it. #GODISGOOD #Nevertoolate #hbcu #NoLimit There is NO limit to your dreams #DRPMiller.”
Miller owns a number of businesses that range from everyday household goods like cereal and snacks, to movie frnchieses and recently stated he’s entering into the car making business like Telsa.
In his announcement after receiving his doctorate, Miller revealed he no longer has a desire to own an NBA team, and wants to prioritize education in the Black community.
Recent news has shed light on the fact that the majority of Historically Black Colleges and Universities were founded on land grants provided by the government. Realizing this has sparked motivation in Master P; where he is taking matters into his own hands to change the future.
“More women graduate from HBCU’s than any other university and I love that,” Master P wrote in the caption. “If we’re going to change the narrative, it has to start with the truth, education, and economic empowerment. I was shocked when I Googled who owned and founded HBCU’s. We can’t change the past but we can change the future by investing in the next generation.”
Throughout his career Master P has been a producer, actor, and philanthropist all while being an entrepreneur who has sold over 100 million records with his No Limit Records. The label has had several artists including Snoop Dogg, Mystikal, and his son Lil’ Romeo.
Earlier this year, Master P announced that his son, basketball star Hercy Miller, will attend an HBCU, Tennessee State University (TSU). Founded in 1912, TSU is located in Nashville. Famous celebrities who alumni include media entrepreneur Oprah Winfrey and Olympic sprint champion Wilma Rudolph.
Prominent schools had their eyes on the younger Miller, including Vanderbilt, LSU, USC, and UCLA. Despite the prestige associated with these universities, Miller wanted to show athletes that more quality options exist.
“I want to be a leader and a dream of mine and a goal of mine is to change the narrative,” Hercy Miller told the Tennessean. “I want to show people you don’t have to go to one of these big schools, Power Five conference schools, just to be great. There are a lot of great people who came out of HBCUs or mid-major schools. I want to be the next one.”
