Maca, scientifically known as Lepidium meyenii, is a root plant native to the Andes mountains of Peru. Maca is packed with vitamins and minerals, as well as the essential amino acids the body needs. Maca is known to restore red blood cells, supply the body with iron, and promote bone and teeth health.
Additionally, Maca has many vitamins like B1, B12, B2, C, and E and minerals like calcium, iron, magnesium, phosphorus, and zinc that are essential to the body. The antioxidant-rich content of maca may fight off chronic disease and cell damage.
Maca is also known as an adaptogenic herb that helps support an active body. Adaptogens are non-toxic plant herbs that promote healing by balancing, protecting, and restoring the body.
Here are three reasons to consider trying maca:
Improves Mood and Memory
Maca may help reduce the symptoms of anxiety, stress, depression, and mood swings. In addition, studies have shown that maca has been beneficial in helping with memory and focus.
Boosts Energy
Maca gives a clean boost of energy without the jittering feeling that caffeine usually gives off. Taking maca is beneficial to athletic performance because it helps to increase stamina and endurance.

Additionally, maca helps balance hormones, which helps reduce bloating, weight gain, and infertility, as well as relieves menopausal symptoms like hot flashes, cramps, and mood swings.
How to Use Maca and Where to Buy
Maca can easily be used in your everyday diet as a supplement or a powder. Powders are the best because you can mix in smoothies, oatmeal, and your favorite baked pastries.
Maca can be found at local health food stores and places like Whole Foods, Trader Joe’s, and Sprouts. You can also find it at various online retailers like Amazon and Thrive Market.
