Putting on makeup can be quite the task, especially if you don’t know what you are doing. One of my favorite finishing touches to a natural look is using both blush and bronzer. The issue is if they aren’t used correctly it can really make or break your look. Too much blush will have you looking like a straight up clown from the circus; too much bronzer and you may get cast as an Oompa Loompa for the next stage performance of Willy Wonka.
The trick to getting a great finished – and not overdone – look is mixing the two together. Using your blush brush, swirl a bit of both on. This will give you a natural flush look. Another key to this step is picking out the proper colors for your skin complexion. It’s fun to try out different ones to find your favorite. With me being a lighter-skinned woman with freckles I try to stick to a bronzer that is just a shade or two darker than me, and a blush that is more on the pink than red side.
I’ve found in general a rule of thumb to follow is:
- Fair complexion: Honey-colored bronzer
- Medium complexion: Rose or gold-flecked bronzer
- Dark complexion: Tawny or amber bronzer
Make sure to apply the bronzer to all the natural areas that the sun would typically hit: the top of the forehead, the cheekbones, and down along your jawline. This is best done in natural lighting so you can have a realistic view of what the finished result will look like. Apply the bronzer and blush combinations along the cheekbone. Keep it about and inch away from your nose.
My favorite bronzer and blush combinations are:
Lorac- TANtalizer Baked Bronzer – $33
NARS- Casino Baked Bronzer – $39
