LaKeitha Duncan is a mother of three, a dream catcher, goal digger, and life lover. And from her posts on social media you can see it all over her smile. This beautiful woman continues to inspire and help women all over the country lose weight, get fit and live healthier lifestyles. She knows all about it because she’s done it herself.
“I started my journey September 7, 2013,” explains LaKeitha on her Instagram. “I weighed in at 280 lbs. I set a goal to lose 100lbs and I did that in one week shy of a year! I now weigh 165 lbs. There are no gimmicks or tricks to this. I stuck to what I knew to be true… Eat right, drink water, move more… I’ve learned from starting out low-fat, to now being low carb. Both work its just a matter of figuring out which one works best for you!”
On a recent Instagram post, LeKeitha broke it down a little bit more:
“I started counting calories for 6 months and lost 54lbs, then I switched over to low carb once I started to plateau and that’s how I lost the rest of my weight. I would say this, if you have a hard time with discipline, maybe you should start by counting calories. With low carb, I gave up bread, pasta, rice, dairy (minus cheese and butter), most fruit. That’s hard for a lot of you, so if you’re not ready to do that, count calories. When I counted calories,…
… I was at 1500 a day. When I worked out and burned up to 1000 calories, I never ate the calories back. Also, I worked out 5 days a week on my journey (mostly cardio– seriously!). I gave up white carbs in exchange for wheat (gave up white potatoes too). Sodium is sneaky when you’re counting calories, so be mindful of your intake. As for low carb, protein and green veggie… Morning? Protein and veggie. Lunch? Protein and veggie. Dinner? Protein and veggie. Drink? WATER????.”
“Water is your friend,” says Lakeitha. “Shoot for a gallon a day. •stay away from fast food. Even the sodium in the salads will catch up with you. •exercise. Did you know that something as simple as walking 30min-1hr a day will help you in your weight loss journey? • eat wholesome foods. Eat more real foods than processed. Protein (meat) and veggies •limit alcohol. People don’t realize how the calories in their favorite libation can pack on the pounds. • rest and repeat.”
