Dr. Michael LeNoir

Michael Lenoir M.D. is an allergist and pediatrician who has practiced pediatrics and clinical allergy full time for over 40 years. He is board certified by and a Fellow of both the American Academy of Pediatrics and the American Academy of Allergy, Asthma and Immunology. In 2014 was elected and served as the 114th President of the National Medical Association.
Dr. LeNoir spent 10 years in the United States Military rising to the rank of LTC, receiving the Army Commendation Medal and serving as the allergy consultant to the 6th Army Area. In 2016 Dr. LeNoir was alumni of the year for the Black Alumni Association of the University of Texas at Austin in 2014.
For 20 years, Dr. LeNoir served as Director of Allergy Services at San Francisco General Hospital. He also held roles such as Chair of the Underserved Committee of the American Academy of Allergy, Asthma, and Immunology, President of the Northern California Allergy Association, and Chair of the National Medical Association’s Allergy and Asthma section. In 2014, he received the Meritorious Service Award from the National Medical Association.
Dr. LeNoir founded the non-profit African American Wellness Project (AAWP) over a decade ago to address health disparities in the Black community. The organization helps minorities advocate for their health and has become a trusted resource. AAWP recently launched the podcast [Black Doctors Speak] (https://www.blackdoctorsspeak.org/) and a Facebook Live program, Wellness Watch.
Dr. LeNoir has received numerous honors, including the Ken Alvord Distinguished Community Service Award, the Pfizer Positive Physician Award from the AMA, and the Oakland Citizen of the Year Award from the Oakland Tribune. Black Enterprise Magazine named him one of America’s leading African American allergists. In 2006, he was recognized as Community Physician of the Year by Oakland Children’s Hospital and received awards from the Ethnic Health Institute, the California School Nurses Association, and Alameda County. He also earned the Burbidge Award for Community Service from UCSF and served as President of the National Association of Physician Broadcasters.
For 15 years, Dr. LeNoir was the medical editor for KCBS radio, hosting a 2-hour weekly talk show. He was CEO of Ethnic Health America Network, which produced the Telly award-winning Ethnic Health America Program, a TV health magazine that aired in over 400 cities nationwide. He also hosted and produced the About Health Program on KPFA and currently airs his popular one-minute feature About Health Time on KBLX radio in the Bay Area.
Dr. LeNoir is married to Denise Washington Lenoir, a family nurse practitioner with a master’s in nursing. They have 4 daughters, 5 grandchildren, and 1 great-grandson. He is a lifetime member of the NAACP, Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, and Sigma Pi Phi Fraternity, and enjoys photography and golf.
