To whom much is given, much is required. Shaniqua Jones refers to the Luke 12:48 scripture often as she looks back over her life and pushes toward her future. Written off as another statistic, Jones was told she’d never graduate when she became pregnant as a teen. She went on to raise five beautiful children, but they often lived in poverty, at times even homelessness. One night, she was raped. In 2005, she was diagnosed with cervical cancer.
“At one point in my life I wanted to die. I attempted to commit suicide,” Jones wrote in a moving video released this week simply titled, “Shaniqua’s Journey.”
Today, she describes herself as a survivor and rightfully so!

After enrolling at Governors State University in 2010, Jones not only received her Bachelor’s degree, but also a Master’s in Criminal Justice and this week her Doctorate in Education in Interdisciplinary Leadership!
Somehow, with everything life threw her way and her studies, Jones made time to document her incredible story in her memoir, 12: A Memoir to My Younger Self, which is also the first release by the publishing company she founded. Can you say UNSTOPPABLE?!
But, that’s just a testament to another mantra she lives by: “A journey not shared is a soul not healed.”
