Somewhere the lipstick gods are turning over in their graves. You wouldn’t believe the nonsense that is being infused into your most beloved beauty products. I mean, I just know I can’t be the only girl who keeps at least one to two lipsticks or lip glosses with them at ALL times.
So, what if I were to tell you that your favorite lip dazzler may be dangerous for your health? Unfortunately, I wish I didn’t have to say it, but it just might!
According to a recent study conducted by experts from the University of California, Berkeley’s School of Public Health, your cherry poppin’, lip smacking lipstick or gloss could contain a number of dangerous substances including (but not limited too): lead, cadmium, chromium, aluminum and other heavy metals. After knowing this, it makes one wonder about what other personal hygiene and beauty products are harmful to your health. Lip makeup is of a particular concern due to the amount of ingestion that occurs while it’s being worn.
I believe that this is a testament to how poorly regulated products on the market are. You can only imagine how much of these harmful substances you have exposed yourself to with the number of things we slather onto our bodies DAILY! No wonder the cancer rate is at an all time high! This really makes me reevaluate how I am choosing my products.
Here are a few things to check for when making your next beauty purchase:
Methylparaben– This is a preservative found in LOTS of products. It’s linked to cancer and endocrine system failure.
Propylparaben– This is a moderately hazardous substance that tends to be an irritant to skin and eyes. This, too, has been tied to both cancer and endocrine system failure.
Retinyl Palmitate– This is the synthetic version of Vitamin A. It’s extremely toxic for women that are pregnant. It is linked to cancer, and reproductive disorders and failure.
Colorant– D&C Red 36 or D&C Red 22 have been linked to nervous system damage.
Tocopheryl Acetate– This is better known as Vitamin E acetate. It is an irritant that is found in several beauty products including lipsticks, foundations, and moisturizers. It has been linked to itching, burning, scaling, hives and a multitude of skin conditions/disorders.
