Ameena spent nearly three weeks at Advocate Lutheran General Hospital for the procedure. But despite her diagnosis, the pending amount of money and other issues, the violence in Chicago streets is all she can think about.
“I got babies out there dying,” she said. “I can’t sleep at night. I can’t cut the television off. The only thing we could have is a conversation and it’s over with. I’ve seen it happen. I’ve done it.”
Ameena says she has a family and a city to fight for. Despite the odds, she refuses to give-up now.
“We’re going to have some other things that we’re going to have to deal with, like bills and hardships and happy times,” she said. “Multiple Myeloma is not going to be a part of my journey. It’s had his time.”
