Are you struggling to lose those last 10 pounds or the first 15? Then look no further than the “No More Jiggle July” challenge. Created by Siddiqu “The Personal Trainer,” (he’s also a BlackDoctor.org contributing fitness expert), the “No More Jiggle July” challenge kicks off Monday, July 6 and ends Friday, July 31. In case you were wondering, the challenge starts after Fourth of July so that you can still enjoy all your holiday plans, which probably include lots of barbeque. By joining the email list, you’ll receive a set of rules along with expert advice on a weekly basis regarding specific exercises you’ll be doing and certain foods you’ll be eating.
BlackDoctor.org recently spoke with Siddiqu “The Personal Trainer” about his 26-day fitness challenge because let’s face it: Everyone has a little wiggle and jiggle here and there that they’d love to make disappear, right?
BDO: Tell us more about the “No More Jiggle July” fitness challenge and what’s involved.
Siddiqu: I picked July because it’s the perfect time where people can just renew and go outside and ideally not have to worry about the rain and the cold weather, so we came up with the concept of “No More Jiggle July” a few years ago to just get rid of some of that extra jiggle that a lot of us have been dealing with throughout the year.
We do a lot of challenges around the holidays just to help people get back focused, but the “No More Jiggle July” challenge is a weekday challenge, so you’re only doing it from Monday through Friday, so no alcohol, no soda pop, no red meat, no processed foods so that you can really increase your intake of fruits, vegetables and protein. The cardio is key, whether you’re jumping rope, jogging, walking, biking, etc. The goal is to burn anywhere from 300 to 500 calories per day. Now, of course, these are things we should be doing consistently on a daily basis, but we like to make it a challenge. You can get your friends and family involved and that makes it a lot more fun. There’s no reason not to do it. The challenge will be over with before you know it.
BDO: What inspired you to launch this fitness challenge?
Siddiqu: We have two other challenges in January and March, but we don’t do anything else for the rest of summer as a company, so people were saying that they still wanted to do something even though the weather is warm. And I noticed that a lot of people gain weight around the holidays so that’s how we came up with the idea. We’re coming off of June and why not get people outside? People are feeling good, there’s going to be a lot of BBQs, so why not use this time to launch something?
BDO: What type of results can people look forward to?
Siddiqu: I’ve seen people lose upwards of 10 pounds depending on how bad of shape you’re in. Some people have extreme habits. I know one person who was drinking 2-3 soda pops a day but completely gave it up in June/July and lost eight pounds. I know some people may have 1-2 glasses of wine every single night and ended up giving it up for seven days and lost 10 pounds. I know some people who take that cardio commitment extremely seriously, but that’s not the best thing you’re going to receive as far as the results. It’s the way your body is going to look.
With the “No More Jiggle July” challenge, we’re also offering the meltdown pill, which is green tea extract, raspberry ketone [dietary supplement], which is an energy-boosting, fat-burning bill, so some people take that to enhance their results. You’re looking at being stronger, you’re looking at healthy habits that may last for the rest of the year – some people stay on the “No More Jiggle July” challenge for the rest of the year. You’re looking at results that can pretty much last for the rest of the year.
BDO: How do you keep your participants motivated?
Siddiqu: We send out workouts, emails about the importance of increasing your water intake and the effect it has on the body. We send emails 1-2 times a week regarding certain vegetables you’ll be eating during the challenge because the knowledge base of why you’re doing these things actually keeps the person focused for a lot longer, so we send a lot of those types of things out to show people that they’re not just doing something – we talk a lot about drinking water, but we actually go into the reasons why. For instance, an individual who hydrates before a workout is shown to have a 50-60 percent increase in energy during the workout. We like to have numbers to back up some of the things that we’re trying to get everyone to do. We also have before and after photos on our Facebook page. When you know more, you tend to do better.
