Taraji P. Henson: "It Keeps Me Calm And Happy"

Taraji P. Henson can be seen on both the big screen and small. And at some of your favorite restaurants!

That’s right – the 44-year-old actress admits to being a lover of food, with some of her favorite meals definitely NOT being your typical diet foods. But how does she eat her favorite foods, and stay so fit?

Typically, Taraji is smart about her carbs and primarily eats protein and vegetables.  She does find it difficult to not eat everything delicious. When she does indulge, she practices portion control.

“When I have the perfect week, I try to work out 6 days. Working out is hugely important to me because it makes me feel physically and mentally empowered and allows me to eat a normal diet. When I exercise it helps keep my mind clear and makes me feel calm and happy.”

As far as diet goes, Taraji has a different view on not eating what she wants:

“Let me be very clear: I love to eat, entertain, and go out with my friends! But I still eat healthy. Don’t try to put bread on the table when I am out to dinner, but I would love a glass of Pinot Noir.”

But when she does cook, she puts her foot into it:
“I love to cook and I am very good at it. A good breakfast is a fabulous way to start the day and this usually means eggs, some fruit and maybe a little chicken sausage. I am a major grilled salmon and grilled vegetable girl for lunch or dinner. And I must have the crunch of a salad every day.”

Whatever Taraji does, its obviously working.  Her hair and her skin show it:

“I wash my face in the morning and at night. I drink a lot of water,” says Taraji. “You have to stay hydrated. As far as my hair…I wrap my hair at night because that’s less heat on it everyday. I’m a health whore, for lack of a better word. I love healthy hair. I love healthy skin. I love skin that glows. That’s why I love shea butter, because I put it on and I feel like, when I go home and I go to bed I take my clothes off, I feel like I’ve just put lotion on. And I only put it on once a day. I use the cream for my feet and I put socks on at night.”
