Lupita Nyong’o Gets Skin Deep: Beauty Secrets Revealed

Lupita Nyong'o

Oscar winner and most recently in the buzz for her newest role in Star Wars, Lupita Nyong’o is making her mark in the industry. Also a beauty icon, the Lancome spokeswoman shared her beauty regimen and tricks in interviews with Harper's Bazaar and Elle Magazine. With her smooth glowing skin, always perfectly put together hair and a glistening smile it's no wonder anyone wouldn't want to know how she does it!

Simplicity is her secret. She likes whatever is fast and effective. She is a girl always on the go, and though her looks are important to her, being able to accomplish her daily responsibilities are her priority. She embraces what she brings to the table naturally and simply has found ways to enhance it ever so slightly in order to perfect it. She says, "I think African hair is like clay. You can mold it into whatever you want, but it's also very easy for it to change shape during the day, so having an Afro pick on me at all times is paramount." Now isn't that a positive way to look at your kinks? I love it!She embraces the fact that her hair is natural and loves that she can do just about whatever she wants with it. She mentions that her hairstylist taught her how to perfect her fro. "Sometimes when I comb my hair out there are a lot of strands sticking up and it looks messy, so Larry Sims taught me to just use a hot towel, placed gently on top, to calm the curls down. It gives my Afro a sleeker look." To ensure her hair is moisturized and has enough slip to be manipulated her go to is Miss Jessie's Baby ButterCreme ($58).

Lupita Nyong'o like many of us beauty product junkies has a slew of favorites. But she seems to have truely fallen in love with avocado oil. She says, "At first I was using avocado oil just on my body, but then I realized it works on my face, and my hair too, for that matter! It's a one-stop shop." It's her go to for everything, even as a makeup remover. She says as a trick, "I dab very lightly, because I don't want to massage the makeup further into my pores, and then I wipe it off with a gauze cloth." That's an interesting methodology. I've never thought about how massaging on the makeup remover could possibly be counterproductive if you are simply just pushing the makeup further down into your skin. Thanks, Lupita!

For her skin she is all about the natural look. She talks about how as a child she suffered from rashes on her skin, and still has a fear that if she isn't careful she will ruin her skin's natural beauty. She is also very cognizant of her skin's deep dark tone and doesn't want to comprise its beauty. Her favorites are lip liners that match her skin tone, Lancome's Kissed by Gold eyeshadow palette and Lancôme's Blush Subtil in Aplum.
