I struggle with my skin because it simply just has a mind of its own. I am a perfect example of someone with combination skin. Some days I have dry skin, others I have oily, and on even weirder days I have a mixture of both. One of the worst challenges I struggle with is halfway through the day my face becomes greasy and noticeably shiny. This is how I discovered the marvelous use of blotting papers. They come in all shapes, sizes and quality, but they all serve the same purpose. They reduce the oil that is on your face.
Something like the pizza grease you see on a napkin, this is exactly what blotting papers do. They absorb oil from the surface. These little babies have saved me from so many embarrassing conversations, where the person I was talking to could have probably seen their reflection on my skin because it was so oily. The best part about great blotting papers is that they do a fantastic job of not ruining your makeup. Now that's what I like to call instant gratification.
Of course, every good thing has an excepton to bring us back to reality.
Blotting papers are not the resolution to your issue; they are merely a way to temporarily solve a very non-appealing aesthetic problem. It can be a costly habit, if the bigger issue of oily skin isn't addressed.
According to Dr. Rita Linkner, a dermatologist at Mount Sinai Hospital, “If oily skin is contributing to your acne, then topical medications like a retinoid based night cream or gel are what's really needed to decrease oil production at the level of the glands.”
I guess that gives you a bit to think about, but at least you know you have options! What lady doesn't love that? Here are three great blotting paper choices:
1. Boscia Fashionably Matte
Infused with green tea, these papers come in pretty packaging and effectively remove the shine from your face, giving you a nice matte finish.
2. e.l.f. Shine Eraser
This is a go-to brand if you want to shop on a budget. For about $1 you can blot the oil on your face for days. The only issue here is that the sheets are ultra thin and can often rip before usage.
3. Clean and Clear Oil Absorbing Sheets
These sheets have a bit of unique look and feel to them. Most blotting sheets look and feel like soft, thin paper, but these sheets have a rubbery texture and silky feel. They offer up the same great benefits of your typical blotting paper, and are able to absorb more in just a few strokes!
