5 Incredible Reasons to Start Taking B12

b12 benefits

Today, it feels like we require more energy! We’re tired! Some of us are married, parents, singles, professionals, working adults, and stay-at-home leaders. Whatever our titles, we all need balance to keep us going in this energy-inducing life. As a result, we’re left drinking countless cups of coffee, tea, and energy drinks. Some of us are even popping caffeine pills to stay afloat! But what happens when we consume caffeinated products? How do they impact our daily lives? There are good and bad side effects regardless of what we consume. It’s imperative to consider that everything we indulge in to increase energy should be done in moderation, not overconsumption.

For those that have grown addicted to caffeine or do not know how to balance their intake, there is a healthier way to get energy without overconsuming coffee, tea, or energy drinks… How you ask?

Well, let’s talk B12! B12 is loaded with nutrients to keep us active and energized. However, vitamin B12, also known as cobalamin, is an essential nutrient that plays a crucial role in several bodily functions. Energy isn’t the only benefit of taking B12 supplements.

Here are 5 benefits of B12 that we can all use to improve our bodies and minds:

1. First, let’s start with the obvious - energy production!

Vitamin B12 converts carbohydrates into glucose, which the body uses as fuel to produce energy. It helps maintain healthy energy levels and combats fatigue and weakness.

2. Red blood cell formation

Vitamin B12 is required to produce red blood cells in the bone marrow. These cells carry oxygen throughout the body, ensuring all organs and tissues receive oxygen. Sufficient B12 levels help prevent anemia and promote healthy blood cell production.

3. Mood regulation

B12 synthesizes neurotransmitters such as serotonin and dopamine, which are essential for regulating mood, sleep, and overall mental well-being. Adequate B12 levels may contribute to a positive mood, reduced risk of depression, and improved mental health.

4. Heart health

Vitamin B12 plays a role in maintaining cardiovascular health. It helps regulate homocysteine levels, an amino acid that, when elevated, is associated with an increased risk of heart disease. Adequate B12 levels can help lower homocysteine levels, thus supporting heart health.

5. Nervous system health

Vitamin B12 is necessary to function the nervous system properly. It plays a vital role in synthesizing myelin, a protective sheath around nerves that enhances their conduction. Adequate B12 levels support optimal brain function, cognition, and overall neurological health.

It's important to note that while vitamin B12 offers numerous benefits and is primarily found in animal-based foods, those following a vegetarian or vegan diet are not excluded from its usefulness as there are many plant-based options.

B12 can be consumed in many forms via pills, drinks, foods, and even through shots done by a professional or at home.

B12 consumption helps us live balanced lives. It supports our energy levels, and red blood cell formation, keeps us in better moods as it fights depression, plays a vital role in cardiovascular health, and supports our neurological health!
