Best & WORST Exercises For People With Asthma

exercises asthma

Exercise is something that is needed by everyone. Whether you’re trying to lose, gain or maintain your weight, exercise is needed for a healthy life. There are so many different types of exercises out there as well. The type of exercise you choose to do will all depend on what your goals are. For people trying to gain weight and build muscle, while eating the right type of proteins, they’ll need to use actual weights to achieve their goal when exercising. For those trying to lose weight, cardio is a type of exercise that can help those who want to achieve that goal. Regardless of what your goals are and what you use to achieve them when moving into a healthier lifestyle, it’s important to know that not every exercise is made for everyone. Some asthma exercises are more intense for the experienced and some are better for beginners. You also have to keep in mind any health conditions you may have when exercising. Some can cause or even worsen your symptoms.

Living With Asthma Can Cause Uncomfortable Symptoms

When living with asthma, there are many things you have to be mindful of when doing everyday tasks. This is because you can experience uncomfortable symptoms if you’re not.

Living with asthma means that you’re living with respiratory issues where your airways narrow and swell as well as produce mucus. This makes it hard for you to breathe properly. The symptoms you experience from this type of condition can be coughing, wheezing, and shortness of breath.

Some people only experience mild symptoms, for others, these symptoms can be severe and disrupt their everyday life. They can also lead to a life-threatening attack.

Experiencing tightness in the chest, shortness of breath and coughing attacks can make your daily life difficult and uncomfortable and put a pause on what you might be doing.

These symptoms can also stop you from doing small things such as walking up and down the stairs or going for a quick walk even though exercise is recommended for those living with asthma. But how can that be when there’s a possibility that exercise may cause or exacerbate symptoms?

Can Being Active Help?

Though being active can help when it comes to living with asthma, it’s important to know what type of activity could cause an attack. There are many reasons why someone can experience a flare-up in the moment and physical activity or an exercise-induced asthma attack is one of them.

This is because high-intensity exercises can lead to moderate or severe symptoms. That is why regular and low-intensity exercises are better for those living with asthma. Not only do they help with asthma and lung control, which is why exercise is recommended, but they also don’t trigger many symptoms depending on the severity of your condition.

Physical activity and weight loss are very important and should be implemented into asthma treatment plans.

Best & Worst Exercises For Those Living With Asthma

Making sure you stay active without the risk of triggering your symptoms can be easy once you know which type of exercise you should do. The best types of exercise for those living with asthma are:

  • Walking
  • Yoga
  • Golf
  • Leisure Biking

These types of exercises are low intensity and low impact but they still help with getting the body moving to help with lung control.

The worst types of exercise for those living with asthma are:

  • Basketball
  • Soccer
  • Intense Cardio

These types of exercises aren’t recommended because they are intense and can cause or exacerbate symptoms, which can lead to moderate or severe attacks.

Living with asthma can be tiring but it doesn’t have to stop your life. That’s why it’s important that you’re monitoring your symptoms, following your treatment plan and getting as much exercise as possible without the risk.
