…”I was fighting depression and thinking, ‘I don’t know if this football thing is for me.’ But then his older brother spoke to him one evening that help solidify what his father had been telling him all along.
“My older brother told me, get back to you. Clear your name and give it all you’ve got.’ And that’s what I did. I had the mindset that if I’m on a team, we’re going to win. That’s it. There is no other thought. We’re going to win. And this was even before we would play.
And in Cam’s first year at the junior college, his team became the NCAA college champions. Wearing the number “2” jersey in junior college to now wearing “1” in pro football NFL is significant.
Cam finishes by saying, “At the end of the day, I’m no longer just trying to compete. I’m trying to win.”
And since then he has.
In 2015, Newton became the first quarterback in NFL history to throw for at least 30 touchdowns and rush for 10 in the same season (35 passing, 10 rushing). He also became the only quarterback ever to have 300 yards passing, 5 touchdown passes, and over 100 yards rushing in the same game.
And there is only one person who has rushed for five touchdowns in the last five seasons: Cam Newton.
Keep pushing for #1 Cam. Excellence is in you. We see you.
