…have my kids be apart of it has really changed the dynamic of our relationship and who they are. Because now they understand the power of multitasking and thinking out of the box. I love helping people and the Handy Ma’am is not done yet. There’s a whole other side you haven’t even seen yet. But don’t worry she’s coming…so stay on the look out.
What is the key to not being burned out as a busy mom?
The key is to embrace being busy. No sense in fighting it. It’s what we do. Except that what you give and do no matter how much or how little, it is your absolute best and be ok with that whatever it is. Because if the least you give is your best your are going to be alright. What helps with this is literally keeping a calendar on hand with all your kids weekly activities on it so you know what’s expected of you and what you’re up against. Then incorporate time for yourself whether it’s quite time, a :30 message, pedi/mani, hair done, coffee with a girlfriend or a cocktail, lunch with the hubby, a dance class anything that’s going to make you feel like you are spending time on you.
What three items should you always have in your kitchen?
1. A really really good knife set
2. Pasta
3. A large cutting board
Being so handy, what’s the key to still making your husband feel wanted?
Believe it or not, being handy and sexy go hand-in-hand. No pun intended. Let’s just be honest, how many times have men been give a “honey-do list” and not want to do it, never do it, have to be asked a million times to do it or when they do it it’s not done to her liking? Plenty, right. Well, regardless of the end result, it causes a bit of friction in the relationship. Well, not in my house! My husband is so glad he doesn’t have to do any of those things and it makes him feel more like the man he wants to be, not perceived to be. Know who your man is! Because when my man comes home and sees that I have done it again he says, “I love you, girl.” It doesn’t get any sexier than that. Now don’t be mistaken, I still need him because there are things I’d rather not do as well. I still ask for his help from time to time because there is nothing like a damsel in distress. But if your man is handy too then the key is to look at this as an opportunity to spend quality time with your man doing something you both love. That’s what we do.
Can you give one of the most overlooked tips to saving time in the morning?
I think a lot of people take for granted their time in the morning. It’s the most constricted time of the day. There is a deadline that never changes. Time is tight in the morning with little room for error.
To me the most overlooked tip for saving time in the morning is not waiting until the morning to get it done what needs to get done in the mornings. Take time before you retire for the evening to take care of some of the things you know need to be done in the morning especially if you have kids. Their clothes, lunch and know what you’re going to cook for breakfast. I get my kids clothes ready for the week and we have a breakfast calendar. The kids know what they are going to have for breakfast everyday of the week. This way we don’t have to fight about what they don’t want because they have already agreed to the menu. Basically, If we get up before we get the kids up and get all of our personal stuff done with the exception of getting dressed we don’t have to juggle ourselves and them at the same time. Bottom line: Prepping and planning is everything. Time is a state of mind and if your mind isn’t in the right state you’re wasting a lot of time.
What’s next for the Handy Ma’am?
I am always reoccurring on the Steve Harvey Show. I will be launching a few Handy Ma’am products so get ready for that. I also have a few more episodes of my Handy Ma’am series on ulive.com that will air by the end of the year. I am shopping my own network series. So hopefully soon you’ll get to see me everyday! But until that happens I’ve got some other things in the works that I am not at liberty to discuss right now but get ready for more of the Handy Ma’am.
