This event is near and dear to Mrs. Paul’s heart because it helps build self esteem in young women.
“It’s very important because we live in a world that’s all about social media, we’re constantly comparing ourselves and trying to be things that we see on TV or on social media,” says Jada. “It’s about loving who you are and just owning it and letting that be a building block for you. So we really try to emphasize that with the girls. Of course they get to feel beautiful on prom night, but that inner beauty they feel on that night, they hold on to it and carry it to the next steps of their lives.”
“At some point in our lives, we’ve all been a version of these girls. Whether it’s a struggle with self esteem or a struggle financially. So it feels good to know that you’re helping someone. A little bit goes a long way.”
Jada also hosts the prom dress giveaway in her hometown, Winston-Salem, North Carolina, where she just held the third annual event in March. “The cool thing is that there’s only 12 high schools where I’m from so I can really identify with the girls,” she says. “The goal is to grow and do multiple events around the country.”
The Prom Dress Giveaway is one of many ventures by the Chris Paul Family Foundation, which has partnered with various organizations including Feed the Children, Make-A-Wish Foundation, The Salvation Army, the Boys & Girls Club and many others to support literacy and technology initiatives, health and wellness programs and after school enrichment.
