Researchers analyzed a group of young adults born in Colombia as either premature of low birthweight babies in the 1990s. The ones who underwent kangaroo care were less aggressive, less impulsive and less hyperactive as young adults, according to the Huffington Post. They also proved better with learning and memory compared to babies who were cared for in incubators.
“The fact that they were able to study [this group] longterm and still see benefits is pretty amazing,” Hair told the Huffington Post.
Experts see this study’s results as a glimmer of hope in the ongoing fight to keep premature babies healthy throughout their lives.
