Can Masturbation Cause Kidney Problems?

masturbation effects on kidney

So, you masturbate…and you masturbate a lot! Is masturbating too much a problem? What effects does masturbation have on your kidney?

For some, it may be a concern as the question has come up often as of late on what the connection is between masturbation and your kidneys.

Masturbation and the kidneys are not a combination that many would even think to group together but there could possibly be a link between the two.

Masturbation, which is the act of pleasuring oneself sexually without a partner, is not harmful from a health science point of view.

Is It True or is It a Myth?

Can masturbation cause kidney disease, kidney failure, or kidney discomfort? Some also believe that losing protein through semen can lead to these kidney issues.

The belief about the kidneys, for some, is that they serve as a reservoir for semen and the ejaculation from masturbation can create an imbalance in your body.

Does masturbation cause stomach pain?

Stomach and kidney pain felt after ejaculating are not necessarily linked with genital stimulation. Abdominal cramps after masturbation can be due to the contraction of your abdomen and pelvic floor.

Ejaculation comes with involuntary muscle movements in different areas around your genitals. These quick contractions may cause temporary abdominal cramps or discomfort in the rectum or pelvis.

Masturbation and kidney stones

Back pain caused by the kidneys is usually due to kidney stones or an infection. Kidney stones are far more common in most people. As they move through the urinary system, they cause a painful kidney spasm.

Since the ureters and urethra do not have nerve terminals of their own, the pain sensation is not in a single area. Instead, it radiates through a larger zone. The area of pain is located in the back, or you can also feel thigh or testicular pain.

Masturbation does not cause kidney stones. Even if you have retrograde ejaculation, there is no evidence that this causes kidney stones in anyone.

But can a kidney stone come out in sperm? It is not common, but it is still possible if you casually had a kidney stone stuck in the urethra and then ejaculate.

In such rare cases, you may experience... painful ejaculation, but it does not mean that masturbating produces a kidney stone. It just happened to be there when you decided to masturbate.

But there is no long-standing evidence showing that masturbation negatively affects your kidneys. In addition, there are not enough nutrients present in the semen to be lost that would significantly impact your health.

As a matter of fact, the kidneys, which deal with toxins and waste by working together with the bladder, urethra, and uterus, continue to function like normal during masturbation, not having an effect on the kidneys.

Can Masturbation Be Beneficial for Your Kidneys?

There is continued research on masturbation, when combined with standard medical therapy, being just as effective as taking the medicine for kidney stones.

The size of kidney stones may even be minimized with masturbation.

A 2020 study showed that masturbating three to four times per week helps rid the body of kidney stones.

Although masturbation offers several benefits, such as releasing hormones and changing your hormone levels to improve your mood and relieve stress, there has not been a proven positive link between masturbation and the kidneys either.

If you happen to experience kidney pain after masturbation, seek medical attention as it is most likely linked to another problem, possibly a kidney stone.
