The Daniel Diet (or the Daniel Fast, as it's called in religious sectors) has become very popular in the last decade.
Celebrities such as Chris Pratt have begun doing the diet and have been encouraging others to do the same.
The best part of the diet is focusing on what you can eat, rather than on what you can’t.
What is The Daniel Fast?
The Daniel Fast is actually from the Bible. Particularly from the prophet Daniel, who for three weeks ate no “pleasant” foods.
- “In those days I, Daniel, was mourning three full weeks. I ate no pleasant food, no meat or wine came into my mouth, nor did I anoint myself at all, till three whole weeks were fulfilled.” Daniel 10:12-13
This means that the only things Daniel ate during this three week period are what we would call a plant-based diet.
Anything that didn’t come from a seed was not eaten.
Daniel believed that this fast caused him to become stronger physically, mentally, and spiritually. If you would like to try this, here is a list of things that you can eat during this diet.
- Fruits ex; berries, cherries, pineapple, melon, apples, oranges, bananas, grapes, tomatoes, and peaches.
- Vegetables ex; broccoli, cauliflower, green beans, peas, carrots, kale, potatoes, corn, onions, and peppers.
- Whole grain ex; Ezekiel bread, millet, brown, quinoa, wheat, and oats.
Remember that when buying any of these products for the fast, it's okay if they are fresh or frozen.
It's even okay if it's canned, but make sure no added preservatives are in any of the food.
Preservatives are man-made, and therefore not accepted on this diet.
Speaking of benefits, the Daniel Diet actually has a lot of those.
Studies have shown that in those three weeks alone, the Daniel Diet lowers health issues such as high blood pressure, high cholesterol, and even helps reduce stress in the body.
The Daniel Fast has been practiced for years by those in Christianity for spiritual closeness with God.
But this diet has so many positive properties for the body as well, that anyone who wants to begin a healthy journey is on the right track when they try the Daniel Diet.
