1. Wear gloves.
When washing dishes, cleaning, working in the yard, etc. cover up those hands. Not only are the chemicals and products you are using killing your nails, but your skin as well. The constant moisture and/or the stripping chemicals dry the nail bed out and compromise your nails' strength.
2. Lotion up.
If you don't do this already moisturize! I keep a bottle of lotion in all of my bathrooms right next to my sink, and I also keep a nice bottle in my purse and on my desk at work. This allows me to constantly re-moisture my hands, especially after going to wash them. Any time I feel the slightest bit of dryness I start squeezing up on a bottle!3. Use cuticle oil.
This is such an important factor to nail health. Just like your hair your nail beds need to seal in the moisture. The oil helps to not only seal in the moisture you naturally have already, but helps to heal cracked and healing nail beds. The cuticle's health plays a big role in your nail's growth, so pay attention and take care!
4. Be an ingredient hunter.
Just as you seek to remove cancer-causing ingredients from you food, look for harmful ingredients in your hands/nail beauty products. Alcohol, formaldehyde (popular in nail polish) and acetone are really drying and are big culprits to your nails' demise. There are plenty of alternative and healthier options, you just have to be on the look out!
