In fact, the survey reported that out of one hundred ninety-six naturopathic doctors, 92 percent stated they use detox therapies -- with over 75 percent utilizing such treatments to reduce the burden of patients suffering from environmental exposures, gastrointestinal disorders, and autoimmune diseases.
To fight this, I've got 3 natural detox drinks and shake recipes for you that are sure to help reduce inflammation, boost energy, support digestion, mental alertness, and promote healthy skin, and weight loss, among other things.
Apple Cinnamon Water
Ingredient:
- 1 apple thinly sliced (Fuji and Honey Crisp recommended)
- 1 fresh cinnamon stick
- Ice
- Cold water
- Large pitcher
Directions
1. Place apple slices on the bottom of the pitcher (set aside a few for later).
2. Place the cinnamon stick in the pitcher.
3. Fill the jug halfway with ice and then add water.
4. Drink one glass before meals for a jolt of energy.
*Side note: This concoction will keep in the refrigerator for no more than 3 days.
To remove toxins from the body try: Detox Water
Ingredients:
- One handful of mint leaves
- 2 cups cubed watermelon
- 1 lime cut into wedges
- 1 lemon cut into wedges
- 12 ounces water
Or…
- 2 tablespoons of apple cider vinegar
- lemon juice from 1/2 a lemon
- 1 teaspoon cinnamon
- ½ an apple sliced
- 12 ounces water
Directions:
1. Add the ingredients to a glass jar or pitcher.
2. Let the concoction sit for 3–5 hours or overnight.
3. Add ice to before enjoying.
If you're feeling sluggish try: Green “Goddess” Smoothie
Ingredients:
- 3-5 romaine lettuce leaves
- 1 large handful of baby kale
- 5 sprigs parsley
- ½ large lemon or 1 small lemon
- 1 small fuji apple
- 1 small banana
- 2 tablespoons ground flax seeds (or combination of flax and chia seeds)
- 1 cup water
- 5 ice cubes
- 1/16 tsp of stevia (optional)
- ½″ ginger (optional)
- ½ - 1″ cucumber cylinder (optional)
Directions:
1. Combine romaine, kale, parsley, lemon, apple, ginger, cucumber, and water in a blender. Close the lid tightly and slowly increase speed to 10, until only slightly lumpy.
2. Toss in remaining ingredients and blend on high for about 45 seconds – 1 minute or until completely smooth.
*Tip: Spinach can be used in place of kale. While a pear can substitute for an apple.
