The funny, down-to-earth actor/comedian Cedric the Entertainer has been making audiences laugh for years. Whether it be on the Kings of Comedy, as a host or on various sitcoms, Cedric brings his unique brand of humor based in his love for his family and upbringing in St. Louis. It is because of that love for family that Cedric announced plans for “A Night with Cedric and Friends” — his inaugural event supporting a future women’s health pavilion at SSM St. Mary’s Health Center.
Proceeds from the gala will support the pavilion, which will be named after his mother, Rosetta Boyce Kyles, a cancer patient at SSM St. Mary’s.
“A Night with Cedric and Friends” will be held October 25, 2014, at the Peabody Opera House in downtown St. Louis. David Steward, chairman and founder of World Wide Technology Inc., will serve as co-chair of the event, along with his wife, Thelma. The event will feature Cedric’s celebrity friends as entertainment.

The pavilion will focus on mothers, babies and healthy families.
“My mother’s exceptional care at SSM St. Mary’s Health Center has inspired me to give back,” Cedric the Entertainer said.
“What better way than to support a future women’s pavilion at SSM St. Mary’s that will enhance health care for the St. Louis community?” he added. “I’m committed to making ‘A Night with Cedric and Friends’ a signature event in my hometown of St. Louis.”
SSM St. Mary’s, known for its distinctive capabilities in high-risk obstetrical services, will begin the first phase of the women’s pavilion in 2014. The hospital’s fifth and sixth floors will be transformed, beginning with a new neonatal intensive care unit, home to the smallest and most precious patients. Expansion will also include operating rooms and labor and delivery rooms.
“We want to redesign health care from a women’s perspective,” said SSM St. Mary’s Health Center President Kate Becker. “It is our hope to provide health care to women beyond what is physically ailing them.
“We’ll be seeking community feedback so that we can have the best and most patient-friendly facility,” Becker said. “We want to focus on all aspects of women’s health – from obstetrics and gynecology to cancer care and cardiology. Most importantly, we want to provide health education and serve as a comprehensive, valuable resource to women within our community.”
