Finally! Bras For OUR Nude

nubian skin 2

Whether it’s lipstick, pantyhose, shoes or bras, the struggle to find the perfect “Black girl nude” is all too real. Starting this October, Black women and other women of color will have some long-overdue options besides tan, blush and beige when it comes to our every day lingerie. U.K.-based company Nubian Skin will officially launch their highly-anticipated collection of nude underwear and hoisery designed with darker skin tones in mind.

In a blog post, the founder (who, to date, remains unidentified) said, “Despite the reality that women of colour have the same needs as all women when it comes to lingerie and hosiery (and spend the same of their hard-earned money), the industry simply doesn’t cater to us.  So, I thought, it’s time to rethink the definition of nude.  Thus, Nubian Skin was born.”

The collection will be available in colors – or skin tones – like “Cinnamon” and “Berry” and sizes 30B up to 36DD/E.

The demand for a more diverse and inclusive nude color palette definitely isn’t new. Back in 2012, Tara Raines, a Black woman, launched the “What’s Your Nude?” campaign via Facebook with great success to mobilize women “fed up over the lack of diversity in bra manufacturing.”

“Women of color have voiced that they’ve been thinking this for years, and don’t understand why it’s taken bra makers and retailers so long to meet this need,” Raines told TODAY.com.

Raines was baffled then that the conversation was still necessary in 2012 and two years later a start-up company is finally taking notice.

Nubian Skin garments will be sold exclusively online and ship globally.
