Recently I shared 5 Tasty and Healthy Milk Alternatives, and of course, I had to give a healthy shout-out to almond milk since it’s a delicious, nutritional powerhouse that can do wonders for the health of our hair, skin, and even our eyes. Not to mention, unsweetened almond milk clocks in around 30 calories per serving– which is excellent news if you’re looking to lose weight! Now when it comes to almond milk you can go the usual route and run down to the local market to grab a couple of containers. Or, you can be a bit more of a healthy living rockstar and experience the sheer joy of making your own almond milk – which is actually pretty easy to do and quite economical!
Here's a simple, 4 step recipe for making your very own, fresh almond milk:
Homemade Almond Milk Recipe
What you’ll need:
1 cup almonds, soaked overnight
8 cups water
Pinch sea salt
1 teaspoon stevia or another natural sweetener (optional)
1/2 teaspoon vanilla (optional)
How to Make:
- Rinse and drain the almonds, discarding the soaking liquid.
- Blend the almonds with one cup of fresh water in a blender on low speed. Increase the speed to high and puree until smooth.
- Add the remaining water, salt, stevia and vanilla (if using).
- Pour the mixture through a nut milk bag into a glass jar, squeezing on the bag to remove all of the moisture. Funny enough, the hand motion of squeezing the bag to “milk” the almonds is similar to how you would milk a cow!

A Few Extra Healthy Tips:
- Buy raw, organic almonds since these will be free of harmful chemicals like pesticides.
- Soak your almonds overnight to soften them up as much as possible, and after soaking discard the liquid.
- Last, make sure you store your leftover nut pulp in the refrigerator. Almond nut pulp is pretty in fiber and makes a great addition to a Beauty&Body Protein Smoothie. Also, almond nut pulp (similar to almond flour) can be a much healthier substitute for refined white flour when making many everyday foods like pancakes, and even baked or fried goodies like oven-baked chicken or vegetable tempura.
