It’s easy to feel lonely as a caregiver. So much time is devoted to making life easier and more comfortable for your sick or dying loved one that you don’t make much time for yourself, family or friends.
AARP Services, a subsidiary of AARP, is looking to change this by building an online community of caregivers through a new website, CareConnection.
The site is currently in beta.
CareConnection's goal is to become the mecca for caregivers, providing resources to assist with the day-to-day care of family and friends who have fallen ill.
“[AARP Services] is working as part of AARP’s organization-wide effort of innovation advocacy and education to help millions of caregivers in the United States,” company CEO Larry Flanagan said in a statement. “There couldn’t be a more appropriate societal challenge that calls upon technology and design to address.”
CareConnection features articles answering the questions of everyday caregivers along with products and services such as meal delivery from bistroMD and virtual doctor’s visits. Another feature of the site is Connect & Share, which allows users to share their updates in caregiving and connect with other experts who have cared for loved ones in the past.
Coming soon, according to the CareConnection website, is the related mobile app, Caregivers in the Community (CINC). The app will match caregivers with peers to assist with exchanging tips and various life hacks.
“UnitedHealthcare understands the important role that family caregivers play – and the fact that many family caregivers are in need of help,” Steve Nelson, CEO of UnitedHealthcare’s Medicare and Retirement division, said in a statement. “The CareConnection platform offers a great opportunity for us to test services designed to lend deeper, more meaningful support to family caregivers.”
Overtime, CareConnection will be updated with more resources for users seeking help from experts.
In another statement, partner Teladoc’s CEO Jason Gorevic said he's proud to collaborate with the site.
“Like millions of Americans, I have firsthand experience with the challenges of caring for a sick and elderly family member across the country," Gorevic said.
